Dharan Sub Metropolitan City is one of the oldest Municipality in Nepal. It lies in Sunsari District of Province 1. It was established in 2017 BS. The Sub Metropolitan City is adjoined to Kerabari Rural Municipality in the east, Baraha Municipality in the west, Sanguri Gadhi Rural Municipality in the north and Ramdhuni Municipality, Itahari Sub Metropolitan City in the south. Percentage share of Dharan Sub Metro city to total urban population is 0.83 percent. 20 percent of the population in the city are Rai followed by Limbu 11.6 percent.
