Geographically, Ratuwamai Municipality is in the Terai region of Nepal. Most part of town lies in a proper plain land. Ratuwamai municipality is named after the Ratuwa river. The municipality is located in Morang district of Province 1. It was established in 2073 BS by merging various VDC’s. It is surrounded by Ratuwa River in the east, Sunawarsha Municipality and Pathari Sanishchare Municipality in the west, Urlabari Municipality in the north and India in the South. 85 percent of the land in the municipality is utilized for agriculture purpose.
